How to treat wet rot
By Kome Guide | March 5, 2010
Wet rot results due to fungi that survive in areas of very high moisture content. If the wood is in direct contact with damp or wet surrounding, fungi develop. Wood starts to rot when moisture seeps in through the cracks formed by scraped paint. Then it cannot escape and the wood begins to swell. This again exposes the wood and wet rot starts. Now the question is how to treat wet rot? Treatment is not difficult as the fungus remains intact around the site and can easily be distinguished.
You should try to repair any leakage around it that is causing the problem. After the cause of dampness is rectified, you can cut off the area affected by the rot and put the furniture or timber in the open to dry out. This will stop further growth of bacteria. It is always necessary to treat the site with fungicide to avoid dry rot.
